Rules for conduct, not for journalism.

Daylight sets rules for conduct, not for editorial judgement. We remove or restrict content that breaks these rules. We never edit anyone's work.

Principles

A neutral platform

We remove rule-breaking content. We do not select, curate or edit journalism.

Claims discipline

We describe only what we checked: identity, and a buyer's registration. We never check stories or evidence, and no story is called “verified”.

Integrity

No paid promotion, ratings only from real deals, and the ranking rules in public.

Not allowed on Daylight

  • Identifying victims of sexual offences, or children in legal proceedings
  • Doxxing private individuals, or publishing hacked or illegally obtained personal data
  • Details of live defence or security-force operations
  • Hate speech and incitement
  • Synthetic (AI-generated) media without a label
  • Plagiarism, or impersonating another journalist
  • Demanding money from the subject of a story, or offering to suppress a story for payment
  • Paid news, or undisclosed political or commercial sponsorship
  • Buying from an ineligible category (see buyer eligibility)

How teasers are ordered

  • Buyers see teasers that match the filters they choose: beat, region, language, format and price.
  • Teasers are ordered newest first, unless the buyer picks another sort (price or closing date).
  • Pro buyers see new teasers 24 hours before others. That is the only difference plans make.
  • Journalist search orders by how many of the chosen beats match, then by recent activity.
  • No one can pay to rank higher, and Daylight never hand-picks or promotes listings.

Enforcement ladder

  1. Warning
  2. Content removed
  3. Listing limits reduced
  4. Suspension
  5. Permanent ban

Fraud, extortion and fake identities go straight to a ban.

Disputes and repeat offenders

  • Disputes are decided on contract compliance only: was it delivered, on time, as agreed?
  • Allegations of fabrication or plagiarism keep the escrow frozen; the buyer must provide evidence. Contested cases go to online dispute resolution.
  • A journalist who loses 3 disputes within 180 days is restricted automatically, pending review.
